There are three types of magic:

In order to gain magic arts, humans must pledge their lives to one of the four gods. If the god accepts their pledge, they will gain to right to receive magic powers. Each god grants a different type of elemental magic, each with their own perks.
Because humans can only pledge their lives to one god, humans can only gain powers from one set of the arts, not multiple.
A worshipers' power and intensity of magic are developed very slowly through years of devotion and service. Sacrifice, offerings and prayer are the most common ways for enhancing one's powers. Giving glory to a god through deeds or quests gains powers. Gods also favor followers who conquest other deity temples, shrines or people of opposing beliefs.
